Education & Licensure
Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry. Specialty residency training. Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities.
Work Setting
Private practice in an urban area, various locations.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose diseases and physiological disorders.
- Conduct medical research on human disorders, illnesses, preventive or curative methods.
- Refer patients for surgery.
- Treat diseases and physiological disorders.
- Study the nature, cause and development of diseases and the structural and functional changes caused by diseases.
- Act as a consultant to other physicians.
- Prescribe and administer medications and treatments.
- Order laboratory tests, X‑rays and other diagnostic procedures to determine the most appropriate medical treatment.
- Examine patients' health condition to identify diseases and injuries.
