Summary This Medical Technician (Phlebotomist) position is in Pathology and Laboratory services at the Maine VA Healthcare System, located at the Augusta, ME location. Responsibilities The incumbent functions primarily in the area of Phlebotomy for the Clinical Pathology Laboratories at any VISN 1 VA Medical Center. The incumbent carries out duties in phlebotomy and specimen processing and responds to assigned Supervisors. S/he performs work in a clinical laboratory providing a range of blood drawing procedures, waived tests including finger-stick based testing, and other minor test as assigned. Consistently adheres to safety, infection control and universal precautions at all times, including before, during and after drawing blood. Such precautions include but are not limited to site preparation, removing tourniquets, wearing gloves, and following all isolation procedures while drawing patients.
