Responsibilities
- Keeping patients and their families informed about surgical procedures
- Administering medication and using medical equipment under the direction of a surgeon
- Responding to sudden changes in patients’ health and managing occasional emergencies
- Keeping good records and maintaining patients’ charts
- Using basic math skills adequate for dosage calculations
- Working with surgeons, medical/surgical nurses and post-acute caregivers to create comprehensive patient care from pre- to post-op
- Standing for long periods, lifting moderate weight and working in environments where there may be infectious material
