Education
College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years.
Work setting
Retirement home.
Tasks
- Administer medications.
- Apply aseptic techniques including sterile dressing.
- Ensure infection control.
- Monitor nutritional intake.
- Observe and record medication's therapeutic and side effects.
- Record medication's therapeutic and side effects observations in patient files.
- Take vital signs.
- Provide nursing services, within defined scope of practice, to patients based on patient assessment and care planning procedures.
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses
- Eligible for licensure as a practical nurse by the province/territory of work.
- Completion of the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination.
- CPR Certificate.
- First Aid Certificate.
