A Speech Therapist is responsible for providing high-quality speech and language therapy services to clients within community settings (nursing homes, day rehab centers, or home-based care). The goal is to maximize functional communication and safe swallowing (dysphagia management) to enhance the quality of life and independence of clients/residents, including caregiver training where required.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment & Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive evaluations for clients/residents with communication disorders (aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia) and swallowing difficulties, often resulting from stroke, dementia, or neurological conditions.Intervention Planning: Develop and implement person-centered therapy plans that align with the client's/resident's lifestyle and the caregiver's capacity.Dysphagia Management: Perform bedside swallow screenings and assessments.
