General Description
Under general direction performs laboratory animal care and the maintenance of appropriate research conditions, performs specialized technical services for investigators.
Typical Duties
- Performs special husbandry needs required for animal experiments and disease control such as managing valuable colonies of transgenic mice, gene knockout and immunodeficient mice; responsible for establishing rodent breeding colonies, maintaining records, providing technical support involving identification, sampling for DNA analysis, anesthesia, injections and blood sampling.
- Recognizes and implements appropriate housing for specialized colonies.
- Maintains specialized containment equipment such as biological safety cabinets and ventilated racks.
